The New Vision Wilderness wilderness instructor Field Team includes outdoor professionals with a
diverse array of professional and personal experience. They bring caring, empathy, and enthusiasm.
They are the core of our team!
Our staff have years of experience and are trained to help teens struggling with emotional, behavioral, or psychological issues.
All leaders pass a background check.
Each trip also has a certified Lifeguard and Wilderness First Responder.

Wilderness Instructor Team
Joe Collins, BA. Field Director. Joe, a certified Wilderness First Responder,
graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in Entrepreneurship
and Spanish. He has been working with teens for over 5 years as an instructor,
athletics coach, Big Brother/Big Sister mentor, and educational tutor. He
enjoys backpacking, biking, and learning and teaching about the outdoors. In
2009, Joe thru hiked the entirety of the Appalachian Trail, covering 2,200
miles in five months. E-mail Joe.












Ben Van Orsdol, BSW. Wilderness Instructor. Ben began his love affair with
wilderness leadership during a semester with NOLS and working with youth in
adventure rec. programs in California. Seeing a need for a deeper connection
with the youth he was serving, Ben moved to Idaho and worked for a
wilderness therapy program for two summers. After realizing his calling, he
moved back to Wisconsin to earn a degree in Social Welfare. An Honors
student at University Wisconsin- Milwaukee, Ben also won the "Social Welfare
Student of the Year Award" in 2009. This will be his third summer with NVW.
Ben enjoys cycling, sailing, reading, fly fishing, collecting records, and busting
a move on trail.

Adam Eader, BA. Adventure Education Director. Adam has been with NVW
since 2008. Adam, a certified teacher, has worked in the midwest wilderness
for years as a winter camping guide and wilderness trip leader, including
extreme winter trips in the Minnesota boundary waters. Adam studied
English, Creative Writing, and Adventure Education Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
Adam is a Wilderness First Responder and lifeguard, as well as a NVW
Adventure Mentor and outdoor enthusiast. Adam once solo hiked the
entirety of the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin. Adam has a passion for helping

Jenny Smith, BA. Assistant Field Director/Education Coordinator. Jenny, a
certified WFR, graduated from the UW-Madison with a degree in Human
Development and Family Studies and with a certificate in African Studies. She
guided youth with the Madison School and Community Recreation Department
for four years and also completed a term with AmeriCorps. Jenny spent a year
studying abroad and interning in Kenya, Africa. While in Kenya she worked with
an organization that focused on family reunification, counseling, and education
for homeless teens. She enjoys traveling and submersing herself in new places
and challenges, backpacking, canoeing, dancing, star gazing, and sharing her
passion for the wilderness with others. E-mail Jenny.
Dave Mosse, MSED. Lead Wilderness Instructor. Dave completed his MSED at
Southern Illinois University, in Recreation Resource Management. David is
also a certified Wilderness First Responder. David has been actively working
as an outdoor professional since 2006 leading backpacking and canoe/kayak
trips. Before coming to NVW David worked as a senior field staff with Illinois
leading 30 day wilderness expeditions with up to 11 youth. David has also
recently moved back from Ireland where he was the Program Coordinator for
and international organization which promoted culture awareness, personal
empowerment, and team building. David also has a strong passion for
whitewater kayaking, and working with youth in the outdoors. E-mail Dave.

Amanda Mosse, MSW. Wilderness Instructor. Amanda graduated with a B.A.
in Human Services-Child and Family Welfare, and a minor in sociology from
Lewis University. In 2009 she graduated with a Masters in Social Work, MSW
with an emphasis in child and family welfare. In the past three years Amanda
worked as a wilderness program leader for 30 day wilderness stress challenge
programs involving up to 11 at risk youth, as well as a Program Coordinator
for the for the Arts for Peace Foundation, a not for profit organization
working with at- risk youth in inner city Limerick Ireland. Amanda enjoys
hiking, flat water kayaking, canoeing and camping with friends and family.

Rosanna Shoup, BA. Wilderness Instructor. Rosanna completed her BA at
Kalamazoo College in Psychology and Religion. Originally from Iowa, she is a
lifelong outdoor enthusiast. Rosanna has worked extensively as a wilderness
leader, and logistics guide. In college she worked as a tutor and student chaplain
for spirituality and interfaith programs. She also spent a semester in Israel
working with the Negev Coexistence Forum advocating for Bedouin rights and
studying at Ben Gurion University. She has worked as a certified nursing assistant
and conducted research with the social psychology department of the University
of Texas. Her hobbies include playing jazz as a vibraphonist, camping, hiking,
canoeing, gear gawking, working with youth, reading, and listening to music.
Marie-Anne Aebi, MA. Wilderness Instructor. Marie-Anne got her MA in
Adventure Education from Prescott College in Prescott AZ with a focus on
wilderness programs. She is a certified WFR and has been working with youth
since 2007. Her experience included working with troubled teens as a
residential counselor in Switzerland, where she is originally from. Marie-Anne
grew up in Switzerland where she spent most of her spear time outside in
the mountains, forest areas or on the lake. She enjoys nature based crafts
and survival skills, backpacking, watersports and scuba diving as well as
travelling and learning about new cultures.
Kate Mutchler, BS. Wilderness Instructor. Kate, a certified Wilderness First
Responder, graduated from the University of Wisconsin La Crosse with a BS in
Art Education. During her last year of school, Kate taught art in Milwaukee
Public Schools through the UW Institute for Urban Education. Kate served as a
Peace Corps Volunteer in the Federated States of Micronesia for two years as
an English as a Second Language Teacher and Community Development
Worker. When Kate returned to the United States she worked as a Wilderness
Instructor for Outward Bound in Florida and Alabama. In her spare time, Kate
enjoys painting, photography, canoeing, skiing, traveling, and reading.
Anna Hemlock, Intern. Anna, a certified Wilderness First Responder, is soon
to graduate from UW- Stevens Point with a BA in Health Promotion with an
emphasis in Nutrition. Anna is excited to be following her lifelong dream of
working with youth in the outdoors and promoting healthy living. She loves
being outdoors, learning, and taking on new challenges.
