Meet Our Staff

The New Vision Wilderness staff team consists of a diverse array of experienced and highly trained
professionals.  Our team is enthusiastic about providing the highest level of wilderness therapy
programming to our clients.  NVW is locally owned and operated by Drew Hornbeck and Steve Sawyer,
LCSW. Our offices are based in Milwaukee, WI.

Steve Sawyer, LCSW CSAC, is the Clinical Director and Co-Founder of
New Vision Wilderness. Steve brings over a decade of clinical expertise.  
Steve's past positions have included working as the Outpatient Services
Director for a well know therapy clinic in Milwaukee, WI.  Steve is also a
distinguished speaker, helping other professionals learn and explore new
therapeutic techniques, especially focusing on AODA and trauma issues.
Steve facilitates all therapy groups, and is also an expert at survival skills
and wild edibles.

Drew Hornbeck is the Executive Director and Co-Founder of New Vision
Wilderness.  For over 10 years Drew has been working in the field of
Adventure and Wilderness Therapy.  Drew has helped design and
implement therapeutic programs across the country. Drew's past
positions include working as a Director for Monarch Family Healing Center
in Colorado, an Expedition Specialist for a Wilderness Therapy program in
SE Alaska and an Experiential Therapist at Rogers Memorial Hospital.  
Drew has also worked with youth in the great outdoors in Minnesota,
Montana, and Hawaii. Drew is a certified Wilderness First Responder and
Lifeguard as well. When not at work, Drew enjoys spending time with his
wife and two daughters.

Jennifer Wendt, our Program Coordinator and Wilderness Instructor,  
has a degree in Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Wisconsin,
Milwaukee. Jenny has been with NVW since before it's inception.  She
has worked as an instructor for a Wilderness Therapy program on the
east coast, and as an Experiential Therapist at Rogers Memorial Hospital.
Jenny is a certified Wilderness First Responder.

Adam Eader, our Field Director has been with NVW since 2008. Adam has
worked in the midwest wilderness for years as a winter camping guide
and wilderness trip leader, including extreme winter trips in the
Minnesota boundary waters.  Adam studied English, Creative Writing,
and Adventure Education Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Adam is a certified
teacher and wilderness first responder and lifeguard, as well as a NVW
Adventure Mentor and outdoor enthusiast.  Adam once solo hiked the
entirety of the Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin. Adam has a passion for helping
teens.

Rick Sieber.  Wilderness Instructor and Adventure Mentor. Rick has
been with NVW since 2007.  Rick earned his BS from UW-Whitewater in
K12 Physical Ed. with additional certifications in Health, Adaptive P.E.,
and Coaching.  Rick has a variety of experiences in both the education
and mental health fields.  He has worked as a Camp Director for a local
YMCA, taught summer school and other long-term P.E. programs, and
currently works as an Experiential/Adventure Therapist at a well-known
Psychiatric Hospital in Southeast Wisconsin.  Rick is currently completing
his graduate degree in with an emphasis in Adventure Education.
Elizabeth Schultz, MSW, APSW, SAC-IT, one of our Field Therapists,
obtained a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Wisconsin-
Milwaukee. Elizabeth focused on behavioral and physical health while
studying at UWM and has experience in both AODA and psychotherapeutic
settings. Elizabeth holds a certificate in trauma counseling and has worked
with adolescents from diverse backgrounds dealing with a wide range of
issues. In addition to her clinical experience, she served as an
AmeriCorps*VISTA working to increase the academic achievement and
aspirations of low-income K-12 youth. Elizabeth believes in utilizing
strengths that individuals already possess, in order to increase success in
all aspects of life.
Michael Landers, Lead Wilderness Instructor.  He earned his BA from
UWM in Psychology and Philosophy.  Michael has been with NVW since it
began.  He has spent over 400 days in the wilderness working with
teens.  Michael teaches at an urban Milwaukee alternative school and
enjoys going on solo backpacking and canoeing trips. Michaels exploits
have brought him to New Zealand, Fiji, and Canada.  He is a certified
Wilderness First Responder and an enthusiastic leader.  He considers
New Vision a perfect place to combine two of his passions—participating
in outdoor activities and working with teenagers.

Ben Van Orsdol. Wilderness Instructor. Bio and photo coming soon.
Bob Bramlett, Wilderness Instructor has been an LD/ED high school
teacher for 20 years.  Bob teaches classes in science, mathematics,
health, study skills and social skills. Bob has been a weight room advisor
setting up individual work outs for football teams for over 15 years.  Bob
actively solo trips the BWCA in his canoe.  A wilderness instructor
specializing in primitive skills, Bob enjoys hunting with a long bow and
fishing out of his canoes.  Exploring the wilderness has been a passion of
Bob's nearly all of his life.
