Steve Sawyer, LCSW CSAC is the Clinical Director and Co-Founder of New
Vision Wilderness.  Steve is a licensed psychotherapist filled with passion and
knowledge surrounding the intervention and change process. His experience
comes from over a decade of intervention with tough to reach client
populations in therapy settings ranging from residential, community based,
outpatient and wilderness therapy. Steve currently serves on the board of
The National Association of Therapeutic Wilderness Camping. (NATWC)

Steve is trained in several unique therapeutic models including somatic trigger
release, traumatic memory reprocessing, and HeartMath. Through his
experience he has authored two books, co-founded Wisconsin’s only
wilderness therapy program New Vision Wilderness, and works as a core
therapeutic training development staff with the Institute of HeartMath. He
was an author in the innovative and  comprehensive HeartMath Interventions
therapist training Module that revolutionizes modern therapy interventions
through an emotional physiology approach.

Steve’s largest project has been the development of NVW’s Trauma Informed
Care model in the wilderness setting that has challenged the entire wilderness
therapy industry on making healthier interventions with their clients. Steve’s
trainings are recognized nation wide for cutting edge therapeutic techniques
and inspiration.

The Founders
Hello my name is Drew Hornbeck.  I am the Executive Director and Co-Founder
of New Vision Wilderness.  I have a BA in Sociology from the University of
Minnesota.  For over 15 years I have been working in the field of Adventure
and Wilderness Therapy.  I have helped design and implement therapeutic
programs across the country. My past positions include working as a Field
Director at Trailhead Wilderness School in Colorado, a Wilderness Expedition
Specialist at Raven's Way in SE Alaska, and as an Experiential Therapist at
Rogers Memorial Hospital in Wisconsin.  Over the span of my career I have also
worked with youth in Minnesota, Montana, and Hawaii.

In returning to my home state of Wisconsin to raise my family, I found that
there were limited treatment options in the midwest for teens. (especially for
those who were not responding to traditional treatment interventions)  I
developed a small program in 2003 designed to inspire teens to make more
positive decisions. Upon meeting Steve Sawyer for the first time in early 2007,
I found that my program designs and passion for helping teens were a great
match with Steve's vast clinical expertise. Together along with our amazing
team of professionals, we have founded a unique, positive, and effective
therapy model for teens and families.

My role at NVW includes Admissions and Program Management. I have a
hands-on approach to running NVW and my personal mission is to ensure that
the physical and emotional safety of our clients is the number one priority at all
times.  I am happy to speak with parents about NVW. I can be reached on the
Admissions line at (414) 801-9791. When not at work, I enjoy spending time
outdoors with my wife and two beautiful daughters.
