Wilderness Instructor Team
Rick Sieber,  Wilderness Instructor and Adventure Mentor. Rick has
been with NVW since 2007.  Rick earned his BS from UW-Whitewater in
K12 Physical Ed. with additional certifications in Health, Adaptive P.E.,
and Coaching.  Rick has a variety of experiences in both the education
and mental health fields.  He has worked as a Camp Director for a local
YMCA, taught summer school and other long-term P.E. programs, and
currently works as an Experiential/Adventure Therapist at a well-known
Psychiatric Hospital in Southeast Wisconsin.  Rick is currently completing
his graduate degree in with an emphasis in Adventure Education.
Joe Collins, Wilderness Instructor. Joe, a certified Wilderness First
Responder, graduated from the University of Minnesota with degrees in
Entrepreneurship and Spanish. He has been working with teens for over
5 years as an instructor, athletics coach, Big Brother/Big Sister mentor,
and educational tutor. He enjoys backpacking, biking, and learning and
teaching about the outdoors. In 2009, Joe thru hiked the entirety of the
Appalachian Trail, covering 2,200 miles in five months.
Jennifer Wilson, Wilderness Instructor. Jennifer has been working with
teens and families since 1991 as a counselor in AODA intervention,
adventure-based therapy, school counseling, and as a founder of small high
schools. She completed a BS in Psychology and a Masters in Counseling and
Educational Psychology.  Jennifer received her Outdoor Educator training
through NOLS and is thrilled to bring her counseling and wilderness skills
together in her work with NVW.  She believes that every young person has
potential to unlock in their lives and that the wilderness is a wonderful
place to discover dreams and make new choices.  She time with her family
and going rock climbing, kayaking, cross country skiing, mountain biking
and backpacking.
Bob Bramlett, Wilderness Instructor has been an LD/ED high school
teacher for 20 years.  Bob teaches classes in science, mathematics,
health, study skills and social skills. Bob has been a weight room advisor
setting up individual work outs for football teams for over 15 years.  Bob
actively solo trips the BWCA in his canoe.  A wilderness instructor
specializing in primitive skills, Bob enjoys hunting with a long bow and
fishing out of his canoes.  Exploring the wilderness has been a passion of
Bob's nearly all of his life.
Brian Williams, Wilderness Instructor. Brian Williams, a certified
Wilderness First Responder and father of six grown children, enjoys the
outdoors, hunting, fishing, hiking, and learning primitive skills.  He has a
BS in education from Dr. Martin Luther College and taught grades 5-8 and
coached sports for twenty-three years.  He has been a leader in the
Lutheran Boy Pioneers, does presentations for various youth camps,
trains educators in outdoor skills at Wisconsin’s Adventures in Outdoor
Education.  His hobbies include fur trade era and Civil War reenacting
and volunteering at area historical societies.
Jenny Wendt, Research Assistant. Jen has been with New Vision since it
began. She earned her B.S. in Therapeutic Recreation, and since then
has worked as an Experiential Therapist at a renowned institution in
Wisconsin, in addition to leading wilderness expeditions both on the
east coast and for NVW. She is a certified Wilderness First Responder and
truly an inspiring educator. Currently, she is in her final year of
completing her M.A. degree in Experiential Education. She is excited to
return to NVW to conduct research with the organization. Areas of
research interests include: emotional safety, impacts of leadership
styles, risk-taking, and building community in a wilderness context. In
her spare time, Jen enjoys running, exploring lakes and rivers, hiking,
and the Milwaukee Brewers.
Ben Van Orsdol, Wilderness Instructor. Ben began his love affair with
wilderness leadership during a semester with NOLS and working with
youth in adventure rec. programs in California. Seeing a need for a
deeper connection with the youth he was serving, Ben moved to Idaho
and worked for a wilderness therapy program for two summers. After
realizing his calling, he moved back to Wisconsin to earn a degree in
Social Welfare. An Honors student at University Wisconsin- Milwaukee,
Ben also won the "Social Welfare Student of the Year Award" in 2009.
This will be his second summer with NVW. Ben enjoys cycling, sailing,
reading, fly fishing, collecting records, and busting a move on trail.
